Preterite Practice with Napoleon Dynamite

(0)
My students love this ridiculous preterite verb practice that accompanies the first two scenes of the film Napoleon Dynamite. You will need the video in order to complete the practice but any one of your students probably already owns it if you don't. Run the film, you can put the dialogue into Spanish for SP III classes or higher and have the students conjugate the verbs in the preterite as they watch. This activity works well at the end of the Preterite unit for level II or as a quick review for levels III and IV. It doesnt even feel like work because the scenes are so funny. I know your students will enjoy the practice!

Preterite Verb Interview Activity: ¡Bienvenidos de las vacaciones!

(0)
A quick little interview grid for students to practice using preterite verbs in class as they return from break. Students interview classmates and obtain signatures in Spanish. You can play along, or run it as a contest, NO INGLES and first one to obtain all the signatures wins. Uses a wide variety of preterite verbs and easy vocabulary so students can "review" while they get back into the swing of speaking Spanish in a "safe" venue.

Direct Object Pronouns: Notes and Many Practice Examples

(0)
This lesson focuses on the DOP's LO, LA, LOS, LAS and how to use them to replace direct objects in one and two verb sentences. There are notes, mini practices, group practices and extra examples for students to work individually. There never seems to be enough examples or clear enough explanations for students, particularly in the area of PLACEMENT of pronouns. This lesson makes the process a little easier and provides plenty of opportunity to practice.

(0)
There never seems to be enough practice included for verb conjugation. This packet contains 100 simple sentences for students to practice conjugation of regular AR, ER, and IR verbs. Originally created for practice in the present tense you could assign this in any tense for students to practice. Packet contains box charts for verb endings followed by sentences, 40 AR, 30 ER and 30 IR. More than enough to get the idea of verb conjugation. Great for exam review as well.
Passé Composé avec Napoleon Dynamite

Passé Composé avec Napoleon Dynamite

(1)
Students practice conjugation of verbs in the Passe Compose while watching a couple of scenes from Napoleon Dynamite. This is one of my students favourite activities bc the film itself is so stupid. They don't even realize they are working because they are too busy laughing. Passe Compose verbs use both AVOIR and ETRE. This activity serves as a great launchpad if you want to assign students to create their own similar practices from their favourite films to share with classmates.

Movie Guide: The Burning Season

(0)
This movie actually takes place in Brazil, and chronicles the true story of the struggle of Chico Mendes to halt the destruction of the rainforest. One of the last films Raul Julia made before his death, this film is an excellent illustration of the conflict between development and conservation. While the film carries no rating for the classroom, there is one very brief (3 sec) snippet of an inappropriately clothed woman, if you are quick with a file folder you can cover the screen or edit out the scene. Its worth the effort as the film is excellent and serves as a great discussion opener to the plight of tropical nations as they destroy their habitat in order to feed their children. Movie guide contains 26 chronologically ordered questions and several topics for follow up. Questions are in English as is the film.
Movie Guide: Tortilla Soup

Movie Guide: Tortilla Soup

(1)
Tortilla Soup is a cute little movie that examines the relationships in a Mexican American family and intertwines the theme of food. This is an excellent film to show after finishing a unit on either food or family to show students the importance of meals and family relationships. This film is rated PG-13 and contains no bad language, only one mildy suggestive scene and overall is really enjoyable. Students will recognize many of the actors from other films and TV shows. Movie guide contains 20 questions chronologically orderd and 2 follow up themes for discussion or out of class writing. Film and questions are in English.

ROCK MUSIC VIDEO PROJECT

ROCK MUSIC VIDEO PROJECT

(0)
Students create a rock music video by a Hispanic artist that demonstrates their comprehension of the song lyrics and interprets it in an original way. This project was written for Spanish students but includes directions and rubric in English so it is easily adaptable to a French or German class. It would also work really well for an ESL class where students are practicing English. Kids love to watch themselves on YOUTUBE and here is a chance to test their knowledge of Spanish in an artistic interpretation or at the very least provide some comic relief to their peers! This lesson is great for level 2 or higher as it will vary in difficulty with the song you select.

(0)
These are clear printable notes for students on the usage of POR and PARA with examples for each case followed by 70 practice sentences to be used as either in class exercises or as homework. There never seems to be enough practice for this concept but it should be a good start.

Number Practice in Spanish: 100 problems from 0-100

(0)
This is a practice sheet for numbers in Spanish 0-100. They are grouped in sections of 20 (0-20, 20-40 etc) so you can assign them as students knowledge grows or altogether as extra practice or review. None of the math problems are super difficult, but they are all written out so students are forced to look at the words as they work the problems.

Oral Assessment:Taking a Phone Message in French

(0)
This is an excellent mini project for students of 2nd semester French I or higher to practice asking questions and taking information in French. If you have large classes I recommend assigning phone call times over a long weekend as it takes about 3 minutes per student to phone them and give them the information to complete the assessment. Parents love this project bc they can listen in on their student speaking French!
